FOX4: Wear Red for Women Day helps raise awareness for heart conditions in women
National Wear Red Day is a special day to help raise awareness that heart disease is the number one health threat for women and the leading cause of death in women over age 35. An estimated 43.8 million women living with or at risk for cardiovascular disease.
As Heart Month kicks off, Dr. Tracy Stevens, cardiologist with Saint Luke's Muriel I. Kuffman Women's Heart Center at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute, talks with FOX4 about why raising awareness is so important, why women should take control of their heart health, and steps you can take to lower your risk of heart disease.
