We’re taking the next step with virtual health care—providing online health appointments to students and staff while at school. Through Hedrick Medical Center and Wright Memorial Hospital In-School Video Visits, one of our own medical professionals will use specialized video equipment to evaluate and diagnose students and staff with sore throats, coughs, rashes, and other common ailments.

This new program will make it more convenient for both parents or guardians and students. With parents or guardians’ consent and assistance from the school nurse, your child can be diagnosed by a health care provider and return to class without needing to visit Hedrick Family Care or Wright Memorial Physicians' Group

In the case of a fever or contagious illness, the health care provider may send your child home after the online visit. Additionally, if your child requires any prescriptions, we will send them to your preferred pharmacy.

FAQs

What are the benefits of In-School Video Visits?

This program helps reduce the school time students and faculty members miss for health-related issues. Meanwhile, parents or guardians can get their children the care they need while missing less work.

How much do video visits cost?

We are proud to provide In-School Video Visits as a low-cost service, as there are no up-front costs. Visits are billed to your insurance provider or Medicaid. Talk to your insurance provider for coverage questions. For those without insurance, we will work with the family to find payment assistance. School nurses refer students to the program, which helps those who would otherwise not be able to afford a doctor’s visit.

Who will care for my child?

Video visits are provided by Hedrick Medical Center’s and Wright Memorial Hospital's licensed medical providers. If your child's primary care provider is affiliated with Hedrick Medical Center, Wright Memorial Hospital or Saint Luke’s Health System, we will send results to the electronic medical record.

Can parents or guardians attend their child’s visit?

Yes. Using a smartphone or computer, parents or guardians can join the visit online. You’ll receive a link to access the appointment through text or email.

When does the parent or guardian give consent to this program?

Prior to the student’s visit, a school nurse will schedule a virtual appointment and our staff will call the parent or guardian for consent to the appointment. You can also fill out a form ahead of time (see right sidebar).
