Psychiatry APPE

Saint Luke's Psychiatry APPE Rotation will provide students the opportunity to participate in the pharmaceutical care of the adult inpatient psychiatry patient. This is an acute inpatient psychiatry unit with an average length of stay of three to seven days. The goal of acute inpatient is to stabilize patients and transition them to outpatient care. Topic discussions and projects will be required as directed by the preceptor. The goal of this rotation is to provide the student with the knowledge to confidently make medication recommendations based on patient preference, patient’s previous medication experiences, drug-drug interactions, cost, and patient’s medical and psychiatric comorbidities. The future pharmacist will have the tools to positively impact the lives of patients with psychiatric illness regardless of the student’s intended career focus.
