KMBC: New Saint Luke's Rehabilitation Institute offers cutting-edge robotic treatment
The new Saint Luke's Rehabilitation Institute is opening its doors to the public Thursday with a ribbon cutting and open house.
The state-of-the-art facility will offer comprehensive rehabilitation care featuring the most advanced therapies and technologies for devastating strokes, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. The facility located on the campus of Saint Luke's South Hospital will start treating patients in early September.
"The robotic technologies now allow us to offer state-of-the-art care, more repetitions, safer for patients, safer for the therapists, and more feedback for those patients," said Bobby Olm-Shipman, the President and CEO of Saint Luke's South Hospital.
Saint Luke's Rehabilitation Institute will keep more patients in need of high-level rehabilitation care closer to home. KMBC talked to one patient who had to travel out of state for his care about how the facility will make it easier on patients on their families.
"I probably would've done much better because I wouldn't have been so lonely and heartbroken and missing my son so bad," David Pecha said. "And for my family, it would've easier to get to me."
