KSHB: After COVID-19, athletes at lower risk for developing myocarditis than originally thought
New research shows athletes are at lower risk for developing myocarditis after having COVID-19 than initially thought.
Myocarditis can weaken the heart as it causes inflammation of the muscle. The condition can lead to heart failure and even sudden death.
KSHB talked to Dr. Anthony Magalski, cardiologist at Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute and medical director of Saint Luke's Athletic Heart Clinic, about why all athletes with COVID-19 should still get checked out by their doctor before returning to play.
